Meet Brett Mufson
Board Member & Head of Investment CommitteeBrett Mufson is a real estate and hospitality developer with over twenty years of experience conceiving, capitalizing, delivering, and operating iconic, capital-intensive luxury and hospitality assets. At Pioneer Communities, he brings a long-term owner’s mindset rooted in real estate development, capital allocation, and brand stewardship. His leadership style is defined by hands-on experience building and operating complex destination platforms at scale.
Brett’s distinct perspective has been shaped by leading projects from concept through execution, stabilization, and ongoing operations—aligning development vision with financial performance, guest experience, and stakeholder expectations. He is particularly effective in environments that require patient capital, disciplined growth, and high-visibility brand management.
Brett is President and Partner of Fontainebleau Development, where he oversees all aspects of the company’s investment strategy, financings, operations, and development projects. In line with Fontainebleau’s mission to create dynamic, multifaceted spaces that connect people and enrich their communities, he is committed to developing customer-centric growth strategies that enhance individual asset performance and drive business-line expansion.
Prior to this role, Brett served as Head of Acquisitions and Capital Markets for Witkoff, a private real estate and development company headquartered in New York City with offices in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Miami. There, he successfully led more than $7 billion in development and real property transactions across the hospitality, residential, multifamily, and office sectors nationwide. Brett began his career at Bear Stearns in the mortgage structured products group, focusing on highly complex conduit originations and real estate financings. He then joined LoanCore Capital, a $1.5 billion commercial real estate debt fund, where he was responsible for originating, structuring, and underwriting commercial real estate loans across all asset classes.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Mufson is actively involved in many real estate, art, and charitable organizations, including the Whitney Museum and Mount Sinai Hospital. Mr. Mufson is a member of the executive committee of the Zell-Lurie Real Estate Center at The Wharton School. Mufson also sits on the board of Gibson Avenue Capital, a value-add real estate investment firm specializing in the acquisition of manufactured home communities, retail and office assets.
Brett lives in Miami, Florida, with his wife, Alexa, their two sons, Cy and Dean and daughter, Ever.
